AlpBase en Irkutsk, Rusia

Hello traveler!
My name is Jenya and I am a manager of "AlpBase" hostel. Our hostel located at the very shore of Baikal in a small old genuine Siberian village -Angasolka on a southern part of the Lake. If you are planning to spend some time living really close to Lake Baikal - AlpBase would not disappoint you!
If you are travelling along TranSiberian RailWay you should take a stopover in Irkutsk as it is a closest town to us. Then (depending on a time of your arrival to Irkutsk) you could ever continue your way to our hostel straight by boarding on a local train (Irkutsk-Sludyanka departing daily at 8:30 AM and 6:50 PM) or stay for a night at the hostel of our partners in Irkutsk - Trans-Sib Hostel (This hostel is in a 10 min walk from a station. Managers of that hostel will give you detailed directions how to get to AlpBase and could assist you for boarding on a morning local train or organize a transfer by private car to the southern part of Lake Baikal ). Now let me tell you about our hostel itself. We do have several wooden loges and Russian steam sauna located right at the shore! We do serve food 3 times a day at the local cafeteria, but you are welcome to cook yourself. After successful fishing day we do cook tasty local fish dishes - like smoked and grilled Omul and you are welcome to try some of it!
The greatest advantage of our hostel and the thing we are really proud of - is our "Banja" (Russian Steam Sauna). This loge located right at the shore and has a great opened panoramic view for Lake Baikal and mountains of Hamar-Daban on the other side of the Lake. We do keep and practice many Old Siberian sauna traditions (birch twigs, honey pilling, massage, swimming in the ice holes in winter (!), etc) and we would gladly share this knowledge with all our guests! Swimming in ice cold waters of Lake Baikal after extremely hot sauna gives you an ocean of unforgettable emotions and loads of fun!
We do run guides trip at the hostel beautiful surroundings and rent a big range of outdoor outfit: boats, canoes, wet suits and masks for snorkeling and diving, mountain bikes and special gear for climbing (ropes, carabineers, harnesses etc), so your local stay not going to be boring AlpBase has a rich number of rock climbing opportunities, majority of the routes are in a 1-2 km form a hostel location. We do have bolted routes with a different difficulty levels: from 5A up to 7C+, several nice multy- trade routes on a gorgeous shore cliffs and many-many interesting bouldering sights. I do have a qualification as a rock and ice climbing guide-instructor myself, so if you are keen to try local granite we could do several memorable rock climbing trips together.
