In the village of Yuvacali, on the huge plain that stretches between Sanliurfa and Diyarbakir, we provide home stays with families on their smallholdings.
The home stay scheme forms part of a responsible tourism project which focuses on improving the educational and income opportunities for villagers in this remote corner of Turkey.
This is a unique opportunity to experience a rural way of life that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.
Get hands-on with sheep milking and bread making, join in with a free guided archaelogical walk of the village, or just relax with the family.
All visitors participate in a welcome meeting in which they learn about the history of the village, the responsible nature of the tourism project, and Kurdish culture. A free guided archaeological walk of the village is given every day.
Typically, locals as well as guests sleep and eat outside in the summer.
In the colder winter months, houses are well-heated with dung burning fires and guests sleep under thick, handmade quilts. The village of Yuvacali has been continually accupied for more than 6,000 years, and an ancient settlement mound towers over the present village.
We kindly request that guests respect the local culture. Shoes should be removed before entering houses, or before walking on outside carpeted areas. Dress should be modest: shorts are not acceptable for men; long skirts are more acceptable than trousers for women. Head coverings are not required.
