There is an expectation by westerns that a hostel/hotel reception desk is a source of local information. I need to go to the Police station and in asking where the local one was I was directed to an office that has hours of 9 to 5. This is not a Police station as they operate 24/7.In returning to the hostel with the correct address and in trying to explain that this was the correct place I was told by the staff, “that it is not our problem”. Great place to stay. Its next to the old Shanghai, walk down to the streets west side of the hostel, and you will get a glimpse of how Shanghai used to be. More interesting than most tourist attractions. Keep walking west, and you will find the Bund. Just north of the hostel is the tourist attraction Yu Garden, only 8 mins walk away. Get the Ycha membership if you are staying in hostels around China for awhile, will save you a lot of money Eric Kim, from Hong Kong ~ 18th Dec 2012
