It was quiet, easy to find, close to the subway and amenities, and I loved the tatami mat floors. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience, although I can see how some may find the futons to be a bit uncomfortable.

I just wanted to say and let all the backpackers know that Guest House Kyoto Costa del Sol is one of the worst hostels ever! It's by far not clean, rooms are full of cockroaches, kitchen is full of big garbage bags stacked on each other, internet is until 10pm..staff act like they are doing you a favor, not the other way around!

I thought this hostel was a great deal for what it costs. The location is great, there is a fully functional air conditioner, and I thought the man running the place seemed quite nice. My only complaint is that while they say there are futons, and there sort of are, they are not really your regular futon - much flatter, little padding. However, I was able to sleep OK. Again, for the price, this is a wonderful deal.

Strange place. Hot water only available for 2 hours in the morning and two more at night, which is very inconvenient. Beds were just a single matress on the floor, very uncomfortable (not traditional style, I think). Lobby smells like smoke, and internet time oddly restricted. Overall, not recommended.
