This was a shack in the middle of a jungle, but no animals. We only saw 2 or 3 birds. The temporary helpers were pleasant, they came from other countries and worked for board and room. We did not get to see the spice garden. We gave 24 hrs. notice and left after one night. The road was the worst, after we called several nights before asking about the road, and was told it was paved up to the driveway. With a bad back and surgery for husband, this was not the rutty, rocky road we needed. I felt we were mis-led by Hostelworld. The owner was an American divorcee who has her finger in many things trying to make a go in Costa Rica. We paid $11 as a deposit, and she returned $3 for the one night and said she did not get the other $6 that we should get it from Hostelworld. We ended up staying on the beach at a lesser price, so in our calculation this place was too much money for a shack with a tin roof.

Okay, we booked this place before truly realizing just how far out of the way it was, so that is our fault. If you are on a travel budget this is not a good option b/c you would either have to rent a car or take a taxi back and forth (you could take the run down bus that runs between Quepos and Londres about 4 times a day, but it\'s not all that convenient). Even with a car it is a 20-30 minute drive into Quepos. There is nothing to do out there and no restauraunts nearby at all. The list of accomodations such as library, dvd collection, key-pad access rooms, etc are grossly overstated. The \'library\' was an extremely small collection of eclectic mostly non-fiction books. I never saw a dvd or a place to relax and watch movies. There was no internet access or phone access while we were there. We could never get a hot shower and the room was not all that clean. We did get breakfast in the morning, but the sugar we were given to sweeten our coffee had ants in it. I will say that surrounding area is beautiful and relaxing. We had a large bed with clean good quality sheets. There was no ceiling fan as advertised but we did get a small fan so we could cool off the room. It is a very quiet, serene, relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for an out of the way place to relax and enjoy nature it is nice. Just remember 10 km is a really large distance if you don\'t have your own transport. Elena (the owner) will book you for any trip that you want to do and is a friendly person.

Not worth the money, Absolutely no privacy, even if you have the private room! My 20 dollar key deposit was some how lost! go figure!

If you're looking for a rainforest experience, rather than a beachy one, this location is for you. Run by an American Ex-Pat, the Finca is about a half hour inland from the coast ($15 USD Taxi) in a small town that is predominantly, if not exclusively, Espanol. Tourism is not abound in this town, and because this hostel is small, there isn't a lot there either. The owner, Elena, is helpful in arranging tours, although she does get a commission for doing so. Overall, not the best place we stayed while on our trip.

This was by far one of the most memorable stops in our journey to Costa Rica. We we put off by the overly touristy option found in Manuel Antonio and this was perfect alternative. Elena (the owner) was extremely hospitable and went out of her way to help plan our trip and arrange for tours. If you're looking for a more authentic Costa Rican experience and don't mind a short bus ride or cab ride I highly recommend Finca Amanacer!
