Do not stay at this hostel! The location and the cleanliness were ok, but the guy who is running the place is extremely unfriendly and not sympathetic at all. When we decided not to go on a trip through his hostel, he got angry, and when we checked out the morning after, we felt physically threatened by him. In addition, he wanted much more money than what hostelworld said we would pay. Also, there is a karaoke bar next door or on the roof, which will keep you awake all night listening to the worst songs sung by the worst voices.

I booked a single bed room for 3 consecutive nights but on the third day I stayed there, the hostel staff asked me to move to another hostel because their rooms were over-booked. Is this a general practice of a reputable hostel? I joined a 3 days/2 nights Halong Bay tour arranged by the hostel staff. The tour was cut short 2 days earlier due to storm. The tour guide of the South Pacific Travel which organised the tour told us that we could claim for refund from the agent, but when I went back to the hostel, the hostel staff refused to give me any refund. Therefore, I went to the Tourist Information Center at Hoan Kiem to complain the matter. The lady there told me that the hostel might not be run by the real Sinh Cafe family and she helped me to call the hostel staff. They agreed to give me back one third of the tour cost. The deluxe tour bus that provides business class seat to Hue from Hanoi which I booked from the hostel before I went to Halong Bay turned out to be a normal tour bus. I do think the hostel staff there is trying thier best to cheat their clients. If it is possible, I really hope that the Hostelworld cancel the hostel from the hotel reservation list.

Note that most hostels in Hanoi (including this one) work as travel agencies as well. Handy!

The staff really helpful especially Heng was nice and borrowed us 3000 VND to us to buy pineapple while we at the local wet market and as a whole this place was great. Cheap and nice.
