When we arrived at Hostal Balboa Bay the staff had no knowledge of our reservations. The staff claimed to not understand our (albeit) limited Spanish when it seemed convenient for them not to understand and the dorm ´room´ we stayed in was little more then a glassed in porch. The second time back to Panama City we chose not to stay at Hostal Balboa Bay

Place needs more order and fixing of facilities. Does not have much of a calling common area. Located near an unsafe area (to the north/northeast).

I made my reservation through Hostel World, obviously, and I received an email stating how much I needed to pay the hostel at my arrival. Once me and my friends got there they were charging us $5 more per person, going from $17 to $22 per person. Not only that, they claimed they never receive any money from HostelWorld when Online Reservations are made, which means I got ripped-off another $5. I had to raise hell to get someone to care about my problem, it wasn\'t until Sonia showed up that my problem got resolved. She was great help, kudos to Sonia! She was able to return the $5 extra per person back to us. Not the downpayment though.
