For non-Japanese, this onsen is best experienced by those who are residents or who speak some Japanese already, as the staff's English is very limited. The onsen is out in the country in Fushio - about 25 minutes by train from Osaka to Ikeda Station and then another 10-20 minutes to Fushio depending on whether you take a bus or a taxi . The public bus stop for the buses that go towards Fushio are down the street about .5 km to the left of the station ( on the side with the taxi stand) It's also necessary to know the procedures for using an onsen public bath before attempting for the first time - Fushio Kaku is a large place and the bathhouse does not have any English signs inside. That said, if you know how to use an onsen and have a Japanese companion or speak a little Japanese, I would really recommend it. We had a really nice time. Our room was clean and the service was excellent. We even got a special vegetarian breakfast upon request.

I thought Fushio-Kaku was a great get away for onsen (hot springs) and some great noodles, there is a noodle stand in the hotel. It has traditional style rooms and great service. It also offers massages and has an included breakfast that is very expansive but is traditional Japanese and my not be suitable to everyone’s palate. The staff always has someone that speaks English but they are probably one of the few people in Ikeda that do. I think this is more of a resort for Japanese people that want to get away for a long weekend than for travelers. It is not good if you are going to be taking part in the Osaka nightlife because the last bus to the hotel leaves before midnight. It worked out well for me because it gave me a great place to relax and recover in the middle of my 2 week vacation for a couple of nights.
