Although we had some minor criticisms, we were not disappointed, because the hostel is advertised without hype and was as depicted in the advertising. We really enjoyed our stay. It's run down, but very clean. Great breakfasts. Owner very nice and helpful. Staff oblivious to what was going on and was not interested in assisting us with information. Our tour guide walked right in and past the desk and called us from the hallway. No one knew she had entered and was not a guest. That's creepy. Close to subway and within walking distance of many tourist attractions. Walk to Madison Avenue Park and the famous Shake Shoppe. Very close to the lovely Gramercy Park neighborhood. Quiet area (for NY). Room was quiet. If you're a seasoned traveler who'd rather spend money on food and fun than on the overpriced NY lodging, you will be satisfied here.

its excellent just to sleep there, because its too small but a little dirty the room... but for just stay for a few days its excellent!

The location is great and the owner is really sweet. We only stayed there one night and went back to Candy Hostel uptown. There were people living at this hostel permantly and they had cats. Not a good combination when you live in a 10 sf room.
