The UNESCO World Heritage Sites list is made up of areas and properties from all over the world that have a cultural or natural heritage that is considered of having outstanding universal value. Not only are these places a priority to preserve and protect, they are also a great way of seeing some of the most amazing sites and wonders in the world. It’s a very long list and they cover areas all over the world so if you are making a trip soon make sure to research any UNESCO sites in that area. Here are our small and very short pick of some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Probably one of India’s most famous attractions, the Taj Mahal is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is mausoleum of white marble and you will find it in Agra. The Taj Mahal dates back to the early 17th century and is one of India’s most visited tourist attractions.

Petra, Jordan

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea and amongst many mountains full of passages and caves you will find one the world’s most famous archaeological sites. This carved city of Petra has to be seen to be believed and is one of Jordan’s top tourist attractions.

Grand Canyon, Arizona

UNESCO World Heritage Sites At nearly 1,500 metres deep the Grand Canyon is the most amazing and breathtaking gorge in the world. You will find the Grand Canyon in the state of Arizona. Prambanan Temples, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Dating back to the 10th century, this large temple compound is dedicated to Shiva and can be located outside of Yogyakarta city. These temples are amazingly decorated in relief portraying illustrations.

Fraser Island, Australia

UNESCO World Heritage Sites If you are visiting the east coast of Australia then don’t miss out on a trip to the largest sand island in the world. Reaching around 122km long this island is a popular spot with many people visiting the Australian east coast because of its tropical rainforests, amazing sand-dunes and freshwater lakes that you will find inland.

Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast, Antrim, Northern Ireland

UNESCO World Heritage Sites With some of the country’s most amazing coastal scenery on show, a trip to Antrim to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Giant’s Causeway cannot be missed. The Giant’s Causeway is steeped in history and legend and you will find it at the foot of the basalt cliffs along the sea coast. The Giant’s Causeway is made up of approximately 40,000 black basalt columns that stick out of the sea and despite myths of giants using them to cross the sea, studies show that the columns are a result of volcanic activity millions of years ago.
