I stayed here for 11 nights,the staff was great,friendly,helpful and accomadating.The bar was well stocked,the guests were warm,friendly and very interesting.Beds were comfortable and clean.The bathrooms were as clean as could be expected for the amount of people,and the showers were HOT.I'm 69 years old and enjoyed my stay very much.They do need a handyman though. Galileo Hostel was decent in all respects, with one exception - the owner. The rest of the staff were courteous and friendly, and it was a joy to meet them. The owner, however, was obnoxious. I encountered him in the hostel bar both nights I was there, and each night he was very drunk and talkative. I suspect that he was trying to offend me although he failed, I nonetheless went to bed early on my 2nd night. To his credit, he approached me later in the evening and apologized. This was the first hostel I have ever stayed in and it was a good experience, It was a clean place with its own bar, the red ale on tap was great. the staff was a lot of help and Brian is a rad man. DON'T STAY HERE!!!! The hostel was quite good but I wouldn't recommend it since our money disappered from their safe. And noone wanted to take responsibility for it. To bad it really destroyed our visit in Costa Rica. Read Owner Comments Emmy, from Sweden ~ 20th Nov 2011

El Hostal Galileo es un buen lugar para quedarse, es verdad. Tambien es bueno para la mayor parte de los turistas que se habla ingles alli. Pero lo que me extrano es que nadie del hostal habla espanol. El idioma del pais!!! Que raro! Josef, from Germany ~ 25th Jul 2011

Yes, the staff was very nice and helpful but the hostel was dingy. I felt dirtier after my shower, and I hated the idea of eating in that kitchen. Aditiinally, it was super noisy outside our bedroom. I felt like I was in a 3rd world frat house. Fanny, from USA ~ 21st Jul 2011

The Galileo is the perfect place for a quick stop through is San Jose.We just stayed here once on our way from the Pacific to the Caribbean and it was nice break to have people to speak English with and to learn about different places with other travelers.We felt safe and it wasn't super clean, but it is a hostel, so considering that, it was excellent.We even rebooked for our last night in San Jose before catching our flight home!Thanks guys!
