This was my first and only stay in a ryokan. All other nights have been spent in youth hostels. So as such have nothing to compare to. What I can say, is that Tyler, helped me experience a more traditional side to Japan. You get to wear traditional robes in the ryokan and out in town. Ate some lovely food. But the draw was and still is the country side around it. I managed 3 wicked day trips to varying parts of Nagano prefecture. A definite travelling highlight!!
