HI-Monterey Hostel is the perfect place to stop while traveling along the California coast. Halfway between L.A. and San Francisco, we are located at the Northern boundary of the Big Sur coastline, which is one of the best parts of the USA. The Monterey area is a perfect balance between nature and city.
Enjoy whale watching, scuba diving and kayaking on scenic Monterey Bay. Bicycle, run, or walk for miles on the coastal recreation trail for miles up and down the coast. Drive or take the bus to Point Lobos and Big Sur. Or just rest and relax in this area of natural beauty. Only a 5 minute walk from the hostel you can enjoy the Aquarium, Cannery Row, beaches, and see marine life such as Sea Otters, Sea Lions, Seals, and numerous sea-birds!
Over 20 restaurants and bars within 5 blocks of the hostel, with great live music and many festivals and events.

We have a nice large kitchen, big common area, plenty of free parking, free WIFI, pancake breakfast, and a wonderful helpful staff.

This hostel was clean and quiet. The atmosphere was good and lights out was prompt. The showers take tokens, 8 minute worth provided at check-in. It is within walking distance of the Aquarium. It is two blocks from restaurants but has a decent kitchen. Scott, from USA ~ 5th Sep 2012

GREAT place to stay! 5 to 10-minute walk to everything in town. Excellent value for money, accomodation was superb (though the mattress was TOO soft, but that\'s okay). The owner and every other staff member are always smiling, helpful and friendly. The dining room is huge, plenty of options to do within the hostel, and they give great sightseeing tips too. Wi-fi works great upstairs, fine within the rooms. Rooms are spacy and people respect each other. Breakfast is free pancakes and stuff. Victor, from Brazil ~ 1st Sep 2012
