Tietoa Tokyo Village
Address: 243-247 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia
Tokyo Village is a small quirky hostel, ideal for those who want to be close to the city.
We are a (65 bed) hostel with a difference. Small and personal with a quirky atmosphere, catering more for people who like to travel away from the big crowds and party houses. Frequented by cyclists, motorcycle riders and the guy who rode his scooter from Cairns to Perth.
The hostel is spread over three Victorian terrace houses. Two fully equipped kitchens, a comfortable common room with an extensive book exchange and a lovely backyard provide more than adequate space to meet new friends or write those long overdue postcards.
The owner, Charles, who came backpacking from his native Germany 25 years ago, is hopelessly addicted to bush walking, mountain biking and similar outdoor activities.
We are more than happy to provide you will all the information and assistance you need to really explore the wonderful countryside around Sydney the Blue Mountains and adjacent National Parks as well as many tips about your travels up and down the East Coast.
We do not have a tour desk since the commissions paid by tour operators can easily cloud the judgment of what is the best deal for our guests. For advice on different options and DIY travel you can contact Charles or ask the reception to contact him and he will give you the best advice how to go about your trip... and leave you totally confused ;-)
Parking is relatively easy in this part of town. Motorcycles and bicycles can be safely parked and worked on in the backyard.
Internet access for email checking is free at the reception
Free WIFI is available to all guests staying 3 nights or more . It is limited to 10h per week to discourage illegal downloading of content.
Laundry facilities are available for a small fee.
Free breakfast? No. Since I consider breakfast should consist at least of freshly brewed coffee, fresh orange juice, eggs any style, bacon, hash browns, cereals toast and fresh fruit, this is not included :-(
We do however provide you with breakfast cereals, tea, coffee as well as all the steamed rice you can eat from 0800h-1200h and 1600h-2030h.
We assist those looking for work with finding jobs. Instead of having a jobs board where you have to make a hundred phone calls to employers who are sick and tiered of receiving hundreds of phone calls from unsuitable persons and the only job you end up getting is being dressed up in a koala suit in 39 degrees hear harassing pedestrians to give money to a 'charity' we directly match you with the available jobs...we want you to be able to pay your rent ;-)
Our hostel is located in a residential area. We respect our neighbours' right to peace and quiet. A very strict policy of no noise after 2300h applies. Those who want to party can go anywhere; those who want to get some sleep do not have this option. If you are thinking about coming here, please respect this.
check in time. private rooms can check in any time after 1100h . Dormitory check in is generally only possible until 1800h . This is to ensure the disturbance to existing residence and those wanting to rest is kept to a minimum. Should you arrive later than this please contact us first.

I have got the impression that the owner is justinterested to make money. The rooms are smelling and grubby. There is mold in the bathroom and kitchen! First when I arrived the put me in a 6 bed dormitory. The room has stunk, the floor was strewn with clothing! It was unbelievable! Not acceptable for me and for the money which I paid. Than I got an upgrade in a 4 bed dormitory. stefan, from Germany ~ 27th Feb 2013
