Hostels.com works with 11 properties across Finland at the moment. In Finland, hostels are sometimes known as 'Vandrarhem'. These used to focus very heavily on self-catering, with an extra charge imposed if you didn't clean your own room before checking out. This rule has now been greatly relaxed in most places.
The Finnish Youth Hostel Association looks after the 88 Hostelling International hostels throughout the country. Over half of these hostels are open all year round, with the rest only offering places to stay during the summer. The hotels are found in various differing types of setting, from farmhouses to university buildings.
Activities such as trekking, fishing and skiing are often offered at Finnish hostels. Bed linen, when not included in the price, can be rented from the hostels or you can bring your own.
