Bedbugs! A dozen bites 2 mornings in a row. Staff was ok but some seemed shady

Dear Daniel, We are really suprised with your comment. As we tried to make your stay as comfortable as possible. But if that is how you feel than there is nothing we can do. BEDBUGS!!! My wife and I thought this hostel was very pleasant with a helpful and friendly staff, however, that will forever be grossly overshadowed by the numerous bed bug bites (over 100 on each of us, not overstated) which we discovered a couple days later! Although the markings of the bites showed up later, after some reseach we discovered it is common for the delayed appearance. Dear James, Thank you for staying with us! We are sorry to hear you think our stay is the cause of your bites even it happend several days after staying! We will still explain a bit about these so called bedbugs: Bedbugs are not common in Amsterdam. However, every hotel, budget as well as upmarket hotels, can be visited by these little bugs every now and then. To keep them away we have preventive spraying. Contrary to what people generally think it has nothing to do with cleaning. The bugs come from countries mostly in South East Asia and North America and are traveling with backpackers, in their backpack. Europe was 50 years bugfree untill now! Sadly spraying will not 100% guarantee never having them in the hostel. When a backpacker has bugs in his or her luggage it will still take about 24 to 48 hours for the poison to kill them. You where with us when we had our monthly spray! We hope this made thing more clear and will not spoil your visit to our lovely hostel! Kind regards, Amsterdam hostel Cosmos

BEDBUGS! Massive infestation. Over 50 bites all over my body from just 2 nights, from literally my head to my toes. The problem is so big that I even found 4 lives ones crawling around in the day time. Management seemed not to really care, and even made me pay for a third night though I had (obviously) made accomodations elsewhere. Stay away from this hostel at all costs. Dear Brian, Thank you for staying with us. We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience. However there are some things which are not true. The first day you said you don't need the last day and asked if we could help you find someone to take your bed. You made a booking for 3 nights and therefor you are responsible. This was not possible and we did our best to help. It can happen you where bitten or are allergic for certain things. We do our best and try to keep the hostel clean and bug free. If you came to us we would do everything in our power to help, you are our guest that is normal for us. You can also read that in previous comments. We really do care about our guests. It is really a shame you say these things only because a refund was not possible. We met a different Brian when we checked you in. We still hope everything worked out! Very dingy place. Hostel cat gets all over the bed. Located a walk from centraal station close to the red light. Screaming all night outside the window. Room smelled like piss.

Dear Guest, During the 1 day you stayed with us you did not tell us about these things. If you don't let us know if something is wrong it is very difficult to make things better. The location of the hostel is great but the rooms are way too cramped. They're tiny and it's almost impossible to move around if you have more than 1 bag.
