Location is great, near transport and the active East Village scene.
The toilets and showers are adequately clean. The shower gets hot, but flows at a trickle. Noise is a problem especially in the mornings as the walls/partitions are thin and the floors are like drums.
A couple of the mature white staff are helpful and polite. There is a young woman with dark hair who works evenings who acts like she is too good to work there. So she should go back to working at a cat house - except the madam

I love the Whitehouse. It is where I always stay in Manhattan. I returned home this time though and have so many bug bites all over me that I will probably not be returning again. It would probably be wise to look into the bedbug problem.

There was no privacy as all the rooms are open and you can hear EVERYTHING that happens on the whole floor. No matter if it's talking or someone having a shower. None of the rooms have windows.

it is very bad quality "hotel". really small rooms with shared ceilings, noise from street, noisy from inside, no security at all, everything is old, and wood, dripping rain from ceiling in bathroom etc never ever again.

I needed a place to stay. That was the only reason I was there. Scary small, scary ceilings, shady people lingering in the lobby.

This was my first time staying in a hostel and it was quite honestly what I had expected (which was not much). The counter staff was generally pleasant. The rooms were big enough to fit the bed(s) and MAYBE two standing people (my shared room was probably about 6x9). The ceilings were open! You can hear people breathe in the next room. Luckily I spent most of the days walking around Manhattan so I was pretty beat by the time I went to sleep. Everything else was pretty much as I had imagined it.
