Like the other reviews said, this place is tough to find. Even with the address in chinese, some cab drivers had a hard time finding it... however with that said this was one of the more unique hostels i stayed at while in china. Very cool old court yard and in a very 'real' neighborhood. I would highly suggest renting a bike to get around. Its a far walk from most sights (but then again almost everything in Beijing is a far walk). The staff were great. They helped me look up train sched Andrew, from USA ~ 8th Sep 2009

This place is simply fantastic as too are the staff. It is as good as anywhere I've stayed (and this is my 5th time around the world). Very friendly and a real home from home feel. Can't speak highly enough. Staff are great for advise too. Would defo stay here again and will recommed to others. Arif, from England ~ 4th Sep 2009

A good 15-20 mins walk from the nearest subway stn (Fuchengmen) but it was worth it. Cosy lounge with many adorable cats to play with. Free 24-hr WiFi only available in the lounge & surrounding areas but not the rooms. Lounge is locked at 12.30am so if you are nocturnal, gonna have to move :). Recommended. We enjoyed our short 2 days stay alot. The location was central and the staff was friendly, always ready to strike up a conversation, help with our itenary and give directions to places. We were surprised at the farewell gift we received! Will definitely recommend this to all travellers. Eileen, from Singapore ~ 17th Aug 2009

You would be hard pressed to find a finer group of people running a hostel. As many have said the staff really makes this little hutong hostel worth a visit. They offer daily free activities a serve up a wonderful free breakfast. Some may say the location is a bit far from the subway, and it is (15 min walking), but Beijing's subway expansion project will bring a new stop right down the street. At that point Chinese Box may obtain hostel perfection. Julian, from USA ~ 4th Aug 2009

Staff is amazingly friendly, the hostel is a little haven of peace in the middle of the gigantic beijing... Hostel is clean, beautiful and quiet, the neighbourhood is safe and has great character. 15 minutes away from the nearest metro station (until the new line opens in a few months). We really had a great time here and I was really happy overall to have picked this hostel. The workers were amazingly helpful, kind, and generous in the services that they offered. A really mellow environment that is near lots of sites and relaxing areas. I would strongly recommend this hostel and plan on going back if I'm back in Beijing. Jeffrey, from USA ~ 3rd Aug 2009

Really enjoyed my stay here. If you don't like cats then go somewhere else as they have seven here! We love cats so it was great. The private room was lovely, the night we arrived they had a dumpling party for everyone that was free too. The staff are very helpful. Joe will organise tours for you. Great Wall trekking etc. We did have a problem where we wanted to book to come back later in the month and confirmed verbally, but someone booked online after us then we got told the room was unava Jason, from England ~ 18th Jul 2009
