HI-Vancouver Downtown dans Vancouver, Canada

The wireless internet would kick me out to the sign in screen every five minutes, sometimes after only one. It was extremely annoying. Also, the bathrooms were super gross and really cold. The toilet paper was perched on top of the holder or on the floor, not in a holder, and everything (including the walls) really needed a good cleaning. At night mice in the walls kept me awake, and all night long you could hear the slamming of doors and people talking loudly in the halls. The staff were pretty Stephani, from Canada ~ 17th Nov 2009

Didn't appreciate that while I was trying to use the kitchen the cleaner came 45min before the sign says it will be closed, and yelled at me. She also yelled at my roommate the day before. Also, I found the bathrooms fairly dirty, right after the cleaners had been through. Otherwise it was a good stay. Megan, from Canada ~ 29th Oct 2009

The staff were helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The beds are a good size and comfortable. But there was no air conditioning and this clouded the whole stay. It was unbearably hot in the internet room and tolerable in the canteen. The bedrooms were just too hot. Nightimes became something to endure because of the heat. Also the continual banging of the heavy bedroom doors. Which can surely be adjusted. Such a shame as otherwise it is a good hostel.

Hi Carole, We're having a bit of a heat wave right now - we've had the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Vancouver. It so rarely gets that hot in Vancouver that most buildings here don't have air-conditioning. We did install window tint and new block-out curtains in rooms to help cut down on the heat in the summer. Also, the fire department times our doors to close at a certain speed - if they close too slowly we can be fined. The internet was frequently down, and the screens on both the windows in my room were broken. It also certainly could have been cleaner. The free morning breakfast was a nice perk, and the hostel was conveniently located (one bus away from downtown and from Jericho Beach where the folk festival was, and within walking distance of another park/beach). Overall, though, I wasn't impressed with the quality of this hostel compared to the price. Margaret, from USA ~ 21st Jul 2009
