This was the best hostel that we stayed in during our whole trip. It is very close to Central station in a quite corner of the Red light district of Amsterdam. We stayed for 4 nights in a 6 bed private dorm with ensuite. It was clean, secure and quite at night. The staff were all excellent. There is a public bar downstairs with a large smoking room. the sports bar that shares the premises dominates the atmosphere. with this there is no kitchen to make your own food and the dorms themselves become a place to hang out and sleeping is difficult unless late at night. the staff was very friendly and helpful. john, from USA ~ 17th Sep 2009

This hostel gave us the worst bed bugs you could imagine. Digusting. We are covered head to toe with bites, I was burning with itchiness in the middle of the night and eventually got a better sleep by putting my bath towel on the floor and sleeping on the floor. Given the cost of this expensive hostel, because of the good location, it is the worst rip off ever. I would never go back there and never recommend it to anyone! you pay for location here. its on the edge of the red light district and about 3 minutes walk from amsterdam centraal. weekends are expesive (i think i paid 45 or 50 usd) but thats definitely tyhe best time to go. the bar downstairs is moderately expensive, and not many people use it as a meeting spot, so its hard to meet people if youre solo. hit the bar crawl instead. staff is friendly, directed me to a good wine store for good absinthe. the place certainly could be cleaner. dirty r Joseph, from USA ~ 23rd Jul 2009

No hot showers, unless U are the first one in. Sponge bath and get over it. Location is very good, always someone at the desk to let U in. Chill at the bar or in the lounge before going to bed, which I did every nite. Overall I was very thankful 4 choosing the Globe.Loc-easy to find, close to everything. Quietness-not much traffic in the front N no traffic in the back, can chill over dinner R a beer outside w/o people walking all around U. Loved it!!! All the guests were well behaved ! Best location of any hostel in the red light district. Right next to central station and also right in the red light district. Pretty helpful staff. Good food and bar downstairs. stayed in a 20 bed room and was pretty decent considering. bathrooms were clean and staff was super friendly and helpful. slightly off the main drags, but amsterdam is so small you can get to the bars, coffee shops, and red light district in literally 2 minutes. pretty easy to get in and out of so security is a bit iffy, but it's a safe city overall. would definitely recommend it for a stay. only con is it's lacking a lot of action so go elsewhere to find fun, which is easy in amsterdam.
