Initially we were welcomed by a girl who works there, but then came a man who is addicted to Internet chat at the reception and is constantly smoking, treating customers with disdain the whole place is the smell of cigarette. A hostel that is more like a hotel: we had a big room with our own bathroom. Everything was clean and the bathroom new, so no crappy shower experiences here! We also had a telly and a small fridge and access to the shared kitchen. If you like some privacy after long days of strolling around Florence, this is an ideal place to stay and just a few blocks away from the heart of the city. There is no one at reception most of the time, and the doors are always left unlocked so anyone can get into the hostel.Copies of passports were left out on a desk where anyone could grab them.Random people were allowed to sleep on the couches in the reception area.A mouse ran across my face while sleeping.The dorm consisted of 3 single beds and a double bed where people had to sleep together.The kitchen is unkept.It was a very uncomfortable place to stay. My friend and I booked a private apartment suite for 2 and were given the keys to an apartment in a totally separate building from where Riverbanks hostel is actually located. It had an older feel to it and the bathroom didn't have toilet paper or soap but it had a very Italian feel to it and the bed and place were clean enough. It was totally fine for a one-night overnight in Florence, though not extremely close to the main sites but just outside of Piazza Santa Croce. Natalie, from USA ~ 11th Apr 2011
