Thumbs Up hostel is one of the best hostels I\'ve stayed at in all of Europe! I found the owner to be very helpful and friendly, as well as the other staff members. The hostel felt more like a homey apartment than a boring hostel, and we really did feel at home. The breakfast was decent, with nice bread and lots of jams to choose from, as well as peanut butter which was the best part of the day for a Canadian missing her pb & j! the staff was extremely friendly and the rooms very comfortable and centrally located in the city. (plus the building that the hostel is in is sweet!!! really old and scenic and elegant, the full works) breakfasts were great and the hostel left me with a great memory of budapest. i would 100 per cent come here again. -victor Victor, from England ~ 1st Aug 2009

Good hostel, overly involved owner. The hostel is a good place to stay if you don't mind some quirks. The place is clean, and all of the guests seemed cool, but the owner is a bit too involved. It is a small place, a converted apartment, and he is always there. He walks in and out of rooms without knocking. There are only 2 bathrooms, each with one sink, shower, and toilet, and about 30 people. The staff here are lovely- Timmy really made our stay worthwhile by recommending some great places! I was ill, and the manager really took time out to look after me, so it was great. Quite difficult to find, despite a few days in the city, but everything is near so you don't need public transport. Fantastic atmosphere, so you get to know everyone- a very nice place in general (although if you don't sleep well with noise, perhaps this isn't for you!) and I would recommend it.
