Since I travelled domestically I had forgotten my passport, but was graciously allowed to stay anyway and am very grateful. The hostel was clean, secure and in a wonderful location. Steps away from Astor Place Stn. and walking distance to the LES. McSorleys, a very famous 188 year old pub is next door.

Great hostel, excellent location, clean rooms etc. Only downside was the lack of elevators

Great hostel to use as a jumping off point for NYC - right in the heart of the East Village. Possibly the cleanest dorm room hostel I've stayed in out of the world, which i hear is RARE in NY. Try and get a bed on the second floor, because whilst the signs on 2 of the dorm doors that pronounce those rooms 'perilous to human life' may scare you slightly, it actually means you'll have the floor all to yourself, with only 6 people sharing 2 bathrooms. And the signs are only about the lack of fire

This place is amazing - I will look no further next time I need a hostel in NYC. The whole place is VERY clean. Great, safe location. Decent free breakfast. We had 2 bathrooms for 6 girls since the other 2 rooms on our floor were closed. The towels provided were iffy. I stayed two nights and the heat was on one night and not the other. The night it was on was really hot until we cracked a window. The night it was off wasn't too cold - they provided nice think blankets.

Met by sign on the front door saying building was 'perilous to life'. Luckily things improved inside. Great location and very clean. Appears to be in the process of renovation and the room we stayed in seemed a little unfinished (no mirror/no individual reading light). Overall would recommend it to anyone who is planning on using it as a base to explore NY.

Visiting NY for a wedding. Thought this place was great. Place is very clean, location is fabulous, right by the Cooper Union. I would go back in a heartbeat! Thanks.
