Jagatram Niwas is a family-run homestay guest house in the ancient village of Heini, in the foothills of the Himalayan Dhauladhar range.
The guesthouse is situated above Dharamsala and McLeodganj - the home of the Dalai Lama - and is an ideal base for trekking, excursions, and exploring the locality.
The views and natural surroundings are stunning, with diverse flora and fauna, including kites, monkeys and mongooses.
We have a selection of comfortable, stylishly furnished twin and double rooms, some with attached bathroom and use of shared kitchen, and some with use of our four shared bathrooms. Breakfast is included and we can also offer traditional Himachali home-cooked dinners.
The atmosphere is welcoming - the two brothers who own Jagatram Niwas live on-site with their families - but guests may also enjoy privacy as they wish, sitting out on our huge terraces. Whether you are looking for activities (including trekking and yoga/meditation courses in the area) or a peaceful retreat, Jagatram Niwas offers a great holiday.
The guest house is a five-to-ten-minute walk from the road, so we will meet you upon your arrival to show you the way. You will be contacted by Jagatram Niwas after you make your booking, to arrange your transfer to the guest house from Dharamsala/McLeodganj.
We are situated a 15-minute taxi-ride up from McLeodganj, along a very rough jeep road, followed by a five-ten-minute walk through village Heini. The village of Bhagsu is fifteen minute's walk below us, from where it as a five-minute taxi or auto-rickshaw ride to McLeodganj.
McLeodganj and Bhagsu offer hundreds of small stalls, shops and restaurants.
There are many local places of interest, to which we are happy to arrange excursions. These include Kangra Fort, Jawalamukhi Flame Temple, Masrur rock-cut temple, Tata Pani hot springs, and the Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan Arts and Culture.
We are also happy to arrange short treks up to Triund, and longer trips to Bharmour, Kugti, Spiti and Manali.

It requires quite a walk up into the mountains, but you get a lot in return: a perfect place in the Himalaya\'s where you can forget time, enjoy the view, enjoy the meals provided by the family (Rikha) in the morning and night, and contemplate about the whole meaning of life. Great place to just \'be\'... Fransiscus Ismaël, from Netherlands ~ 19th Aug 2012
