IchiEnSou is located in an idyllic location, one street off the main street in the most famous Geisha district in Kyoto, called Gion. The city centre and numerous famous temples and shrines are also within 5 minute walk.
IchiEnSou was renovated in late 2007 to make your stay as comfortable as possible and yet retain the original features of the original house which was built during the 1920's. We have a 4 bed female dormitory and a 7 bed dormitory.
We are very pleased to help you plan your time in Kyoto and make your stay as memorable experience as possible while at IchiEnSou.
Please read the following information before making your booking:
IchiEnSou is operated by a family. And we and our staff also live in the guesthouse. We kindly request to keep quiet between 23:00pm and 8:00am. We would like to maintain a good sleeping environment for our guests and ourselves.
For your cancellation request (also any changes in your booking details), please inform us by email at least 7 days in advance.
On this website, we DO NOT accept group bookings with more than 3 people . Please contact us directly if you would like to make a group booking.
Check-in time is between 16:00 and 22:00.
However, we are happy to keep your luggage between 8:00 and 14:00.
Reception hour
8:00~11:00 in the morning
16:00~22:00 in the evening
The below hours are our CLOSING hours. Please note if you'd like to drop your luggage.

I really liked it here and stayed longer than planned. The owners are a very nice couple and treat you, although not to unlike for Japan, very well. The whole look and feel of the house and the neighbourhood are awesome, the rooms spacious. If you walk from the main train station it will take you around 40 minutes, but by metro or bus it's quite fast. Plenty of shops and restaurants around. And sometimes there's also an organised visit for all guests to some local restaurants. Sven, from Germany ~ 10th May 2013

Man, if you are looking for a low key hostel in the old part of town that's close to everything, this is it! Yashi and his family are exceptionally hospitable, always up for a chat and always helped me find where I was going. The 1st night I chanced on him taking us hostelites to a hole-in-the-wall local joint that was awesomely chill and great place that I would never have found without a local! I felt most comfortable here and had many great conversations! I'll stay here anytime I am in Kyoto! Ben, from Canada ~ 31st Jan 2013
