The Cal Lodge is a 10,000 sq foot Lodge operated by the Associated Students of the University of California. This historic Lodge built in 1937 features old Tahoe Style architecture and style. The most amazing thing about the Cal Lodge is its location. Were are located at 7,0000 feet on top of Donner Summit surrounded by beautiful mountains and within 10 minutes of several swiming holes including Donner Lake, Long Lake and Lake Tahoe. In addition during the winter guests can ski out our back door or go to one of several ski resorts ofless than 10 minutes away. Virtually accross the street. They include Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Donner Ski Ranch, and Boreal Moutain Resort..
The winter season beginning December 1st thur April 23 is our busiest season as most of our guests come up to enjoy sledding in the back yard and Snow boarding/ Skiing/ at Sugar Bowl Ski resort, then relax around a cozy fire back at the Lodge. Weekends are usually booked with large groups of 30+ and mid weeks are quieter with better ski/ snowboard packages. Meals provided upon request
There is a Free public bus between Truckee, California and Cal Lodge, free 15 minute ride.
The Cal Lodge receives over 25 feet of snow and is located in the snowiest place in the United states were people live year around. Come enjoy this year around wonderland.

The Cal Lodge Staff
The Cal Lodge is a 10,000 sq foot Lodge, built in 1937 by the Associated Students of the University of California. We are located on top of the hill at 7,000 feet and we are a true 4 season Hostel as we change with the seasons. Our busiest season is during the Winter between December 1st though April 30th. Our Summer Season is between June 1st and October 31st. .
From San Francisco:
Take the bus: Take the bus from the Adelaide Hostel in San Francisco with our tour operator.
Take the train: Our Hostel is accessible by Train (Amtrak) to Truckee, California then by free public Bus to our Hostel (Winter Only). Purchase the 10 Ride Transferable Multi-ticket from Amtrak
Find ten friends, get discounted lift tickets from us to Sugar Bowl Resort at rates well below the regular group rates. Plus, free rental equipment and free two hour lessons (midweek and select weekends).
All guests need to bring their own sleeping bags/ blankets (we do have extra's to borrow), toiletries and warm clothing during the Winter.
