Hostel has 2 different Locations and didn\'t tell us about it - so we took a cab to the wrong one and had to move over to the other one. Staff doesn\'t speak english in the one of the two Hostels!

The Lodz Youth Hostel was affordable and very well located. The room and bathroom were clean, although the shower was mildewy, the faucets leaked, and the lights took about 5 minutes to warm up and turn on. The hostel is a living relic of Poland's communist past--it seems like it wouldn't take much to update it, but nobody can seem to be bothered. I wouldn't have minded the mildew, the threadbare linens, or the surly staff, but when the night porter didn't want to let us in at 1 am on Saturday night--despite repeatedly telling him in Polish and English that we were staying at the hostel--I decided I wouldn't be going back there.

A nice hostel, clean and well equipped, quiet at night and just round the corner from Lodz' main street (the only one worth walking down really). Hostel has a slightly confusing bathroom system where you have the key to one of 3 WCs & showers in your room. This would be OK except they let out rooms with keys for the same bathroom, so they didn't have to clean the others. So even though our floor was half-empty everyone was in adjacent rooms and sharing one bathroom. Its also a pretty long walk from the train station, so you may want to get a taxi.

Don't bother asking staff for help if you can't speak Polish
