The Hotel alla Salute** is situated in a favoured and strategic position compared with other Venetian hotels: in a peaceful oasis, a few steps away from the major artistic and cultural places of interest in Venice and easily reachable from the station and from Piazzale Roma.
The Hotel alla Salute, with its 56 bedrooms, faces onto the Fondamenta Ca' BalĂ and is 2 minutes from the splendid Basilica of the Madonna della Salute and 4 minutes from the Punta della Salute opposite Piazza San Marco, the most spectacular panoramic location in Venice.
A few steps from the Hotel is the water bus stop. In 5 minutes it is possible to reach the Gallerie dell'Accademia, Piazza San Marco, the Teatro La Fenice and Ca' Rezzonico - the 18th century Venetian museum. Piazza San Marco can also be reached by gondola: the ferry that goes to the other side of the Grand Canal is very close to the Hotel and costs only 50 centimes!
The Accademia di Belle Arti and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection can be reached on foot in 2/3 minutes. Not far away is the Fondamenta delle Zattere, a romantic walking route celebrated by the Russian writer Josif Brodskij in "La fondamenta degli incurabili".
The area of the Salute is a location that stimulates the contemplative side of every visitor. Perhaps this is why Ezra Pound and Allen Ginsberg chose to put down roots right here. Ezra lived for two years in the Hotel alla Salute; Allen found a house a little further away. The two poets were in the habit of meeting each other in the Hotel garden.
Even Peggy Guggenheim, that had set up her gallery of contemporary art in the nearby Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, loved to stay at this benchmark of Italian and foreign artists. Starting after the war and for all the Seventies, the Salute became a place of intense intellectual ferment. We remember painters like Guidi, Santomaso, Tallone, Carena, and Vedova. Even today one clearly detects a very special atmosphere, cultured and creative.
