Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark in Amsterdam, Netherlands

We've been traveling near 3 months and this was the worst of our hostel experiences. Other than a free breakfast which still baffles me, everything else costs money. Internet, baggage storage, and wifi (yes wifi) require payment. It is near impossible to talk to reception as there is always a massive line and the hostel is often understaffed. Worst still, there is no kitchen. In a city as expensive as Amsterdam, not being able to cook dinner or prep a quick lunch was a big negative. The ho David, from USA ~ 25th Sep 2009

Located a bit far from the city center, this hostel was very clean, but... it was the second worst experience I've ever had. From the 3 euro per hour that they charge for internet (1.50 for 15 minutes!), to the 4.50 they charge to *sell* you a towel (they do not rent towels), to the 4 euro they charge to store your luggage if you need a place to keep it on the day of check-out. They have a separate, secure, card-access only area to store bicycles, but the card to your room does not allow access Juan, from USA ~ 7th Sep 2009
