Neukoelln is an inner-city locality of Berlin including the historic village of Rixdorf and numerous Gruenderzeit apartment blocks. The old worker's district is densely settled with a population of about 150.000 inhabitants and characterized by a high percentage of immigrants. In the past few years, northern Neukoelln, frequently known as Kreuzkoelln, has undergone a transformation and has seen a huge influx of students and artists as the area becomes increasingly popular.
