You need to validate a ticket for each individual travel per line (buses, trams and the underground), but not when you change underground lines at Deák square.
Tickets currently cost 350 HUF, and are sold at underground stations and most bus stops. You can validate them onboard the vehicles, except at the underground, where you'll have to validate at the station entrance before boarding.
THE FINE FOR TRAVELING WITHOUT A VALID TICKET IS 8000 HUF (~ $35 USD / 25 EUR) ON THE SPOT!
From Liszt Fecenc International Airport:
Take bus number 200 at the airport to Kőbánya - Kispest Terminal (final stop), then the underground (M3, blue line) to Deák tér (two stops) and change lines (M2, red line), getting off at Blaha Lujza tér (second stop).
Taxi costs approximately 6-7000 HUF (as of 2014.02.22.)
From Nyugati railway station:
Take tram 4 or 6 and get off at Blaha Lujza square (fourth stop).
Taxi costs approximately 1500 HUF.
From Keleti railway station:
Take any bus with a 7 in its name, since they all stop right on the square, or just take the underground (M2, red line), the first stop is Blaha Lujza tér. If you decide to walk, just follow Rákóczi út, it's about ten-fifteen minutes on foot.
Taxi costs approximately 800-1000 HUF.
From Népliget bus station:
Take the underground (M3, blue line) to Ferenc körút and change to tram 4 or 6, getting off three stops later, at Blaha Lujza tér.
We are located at the corner of József körút and Rákóczi út, right across the street from the tram stop. The building has a 'Stella Artois' advertisement on the roof, and there's a small change office and a pharmacy right next to our door.
The hostel is located on one of the two major mass transit hubs in Budapest downtown. Accessible via M2 (red) underground from Keleti and Déli train stations, trams 4 and 6 from Nyugati train station, we are right on the edge of the old Jewish District, now renowned as the 'ruin pub area'. Just fifteen minutes away from Oktogon, the Great Synagogue, Saint Stephen's Basilica and the Old Market Hall via mass transit. ATM-s, pharmacies and change offices are within walking distance.
