The Old Countryhouse is an award winning hostel that has had comfort and coziness sorted for over 18 years! Our colonial style villas are well heated, have excellent kitchen facilities, lounges to chill out and watch a movie and much much more!!

FREE unlimited WiFi helps you to stay in touch with the world, and once you peel yourself away from the screen you can relax and get a touch of luxury in our Spa&Sauna sanctuary.
What more could you want in a backpackers? Well… We also have spacious gardens, laundry facilities, a picnic and BBQ area and your choice of private rooms and dorms!

Our friendly staff members are always keen to help out. They will go the extra mile for you if you want to book activities, rental cars, want to know your way around or just need a bit of travel advice. We are all fellow travellers and want to be tested on our local knowledge.
The Old Countryhouse is located on the eastern side of central Christchurch. We have the best of both worlds: close enough to the city to walk easily within 15 minutes, yet right next to local shops and restaurants. There is a supermarket, the best butcher in Christchurch, post office, Subway restaurant, Fish'n Chips, etc. conveniently located just across the road. Two of our favourite Cafe's are just a short 5-10 minute walk as it our favourite pub.

Buses to local beaches, all major shopping malls and city leave directly from our doorstep. Easily accessible from the airport and only 1500 metres from the Intercity Bus Depot.

THE ACCOMMODATION:
Central heating to keep warm during those cold winter months, Doubles & Twins (with and without private bathrooms) & spacious Dorms - all with firm beds for a good nights sleep. Triple rooms have either one double and one single bed or bunk beds.


FREE PARKING:
Parking in a city almost always comes at a premium. You can save the parking cost here as we offer FREE on-site parking on a first come first served basis. For all others, there is plenty of FREE on-street parking all surrounding the hostel (so never a problem finding a car park).

RECEPTION HOURS & CHECK-IN TIMES: 9am to 8pm
Guests may check-in any time after 2pm during reception hours. However, we are pleased to report that we now can accommodate guests arriving late. In consideration for our other guests we will ONLY accept bookings for PRIVATE ROOMS outside our reception hours. Please note, if you book a dorm bed with a late arrival, you will be expected to pay for this as we are unable to re-sell this to another guests- to avoid this, we suggest to book a private room for the first night and then change to a dorm room for the following nights.

OUR CANCELLATION POLICY:
All cancellations or changes to the booking must be received by us by email before 7pm at least 2 full days prior to your arrival date (NZ local time). We will confirm the receipt of your cancellation or change of booking by return email (during our reception hours). But, if we do not hear from you and you do not arrive, then we will charge your credit card with the full amount for your booking

CHILDREN POLICY:
Regretfully we can only accept children age 14 and older and only with bookings into private rooms.

We only accept bookings for a maximum of seven days and up to 6 guests. Please enquire to us directly for bookings with more than 6 guests. Bookings for a longer period of time will be cancelled.

We invite you to take a walk along our garden path to one of our charming colonial villas with polished wooden floors and hand-made native timber furniture. All our villas have been fully restored and have everything to make your stay with us a memorable one. They are set among landscaped gardens and have secure electronic access.

Some of the CBD is still closed but the best parts of Christchurch are open and definitely worth a visit. Make sure you see reception for information and bookings for all the best attractions and activities in and around Christchurch. Ask for our Walking Rally, taking you through the new and funky places that have popped up all over the city as well as the city sights.

Latest news: the newly added spa pool and sauna are a big hit with all our guests - and it's free.

Max, our puppy, has just had his first birthday. He’s now a big fellow, still keen to play and just loves big cuddles. We will post an updated photo of him shortly.

The Accommodation
We’ve got full central heating to keep warm during those cold winter months. Our rooms are doubles and twins (with and without private bathrooms) and spacious dorms - all with firm beds for a good night’s sleep. The triple rooms have one double and one single bed. All private rooms have fully made-up beds. All bedding is included free-of-charge in both private rooms and dorms.

The Facilities
Our well-equipped kitchens have everything you need to cook up a storm. There’s also a TV lounge and a separate reading lounge to chill out in plus other home comforts such as laundry, guest telephone, Internet and off-street parking.

Wi-Fi internet is available in all bedrooms and public areas and you can pick up your free $5 Wi-Fi voucher from reception daily. Stay in touch with your friends and family on us!

The Garden
Our spacious garden is landscaped with lots of native plants, fern trees and palm trees and is a wonderful space in which to relax. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, inviting you to sit back and relax with a good book, plan your next adventure or enjoy a conversation with friends and a glass of wine.

The Location
We’re located on the eastern side of central Christchurch. RECEPTION HOURS AND CHECK IN:
Reception is open from 9am to 8pm. Your room will be ready to move in after 3pm and you are welcome to store your bags here till then.

ARRIVING OUTSIDE RECEPTION HOURS:
We are delighted to offer a late check in service for our guests arriving outside reception hours. Once we receive your booking with a late arrival time, we will take full payment (plus $3 credit card processing fee) as it is our policy to only send out our Late Arrival Instructions for prepaid accommodation and your booking then can not be changed or transferred.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
All modifications or cancellations to your booking must be received by email to: theoldcountryhouse@yahoo.co.nz. before 7pm (NZ time) up to 2 full days before date of arrival.

EXTENDED CANCELLATION POLICY for Christmas and New Year Bookings:
Any cancellation or modification to your booking must be received by email ONE WEEK PRIOR to your arrival date. For any modification received within one week or No Show, the total price of the booking will be charged.

CHILDREN POLICY:
Children are welcome at our hostel.

Bookings with children must be made for private rooms only. Parents and children must sleep in the same room and children above the age of 3 must be accommodated in a room that caters for them to have their own beds. Parents must accompany children at all times.

GROUP BOOKINGS:
Bookings for more than 6 guests must be requested through our Group Booking Page and we will send you a quote.

DIRECTIONS:
From the airport:
Shuttle direct to our doorstep. If you would like us to book a shuttle from the airport to the hostel, please use the airport shuttle form on our website www.oldcountryhouse.co.nz us after you made your booking. The price is $29 for one person and $6 per additional person. Extra items such as bikes or snowboards are $6 extra. Once we have received your shuttle booking request, we will add the cost to your bill here.

Taxi direct to our doorstep: Approximately $45 from the airport.

Public Bus to city centre: $8 to the Bus Exchange then either 20 minutes walk or take the Yellow Line direction New Brighton and get off on Stanmore Road for $4

From the train station:
Shuttle direct to our doorstep: $10 per passenger
Taxi direct to our doorstep: Approximately $25
Public Bus: there is no public transport to and from the train station!

Walk from the city centre:
Walk east along Gloucester Street for approx. 15 - 20 minutes. We are at the corner of Stanmore Road and Gloucester Street

IMPORTANT:
1. Full payment of the balance is due IN CASH on arrival. Credit card or debit card use is available but will incur a small surcharge.

2. Please remember that you MUST ARRIVE BEFORE 8PM as our reception will be closed after 8pm. If you have booked a room/bed for the same night but after our reception has closed, we will not know that you are coming and therefore you will not get into the hostel.

Late Arrivals: We are delighted to offer a late check in service for guests arriving outside our reception hours. In consideration to other guests sharing a dorm the late arrival service is only AVAILABLE FOR BOOKINGS IN PRIVATE ROOMS (= all members of your booking must be booked into a private room). Once we receive your booking with a late arrival time, we will take full payment (plus $3 credit card processing fee) as it is our policy to only send out our Late Arrival Instructions for prepaid accommodation and your booking then can not be changed or transferred.

If you have booked a dorm bed (or a dorm bed is part of your entire booking) and are arriving late, you will be liable for the total payment of your booking, even though you will not be able to stay, as you were advised of and accepted this policy prior to completing the booking process and as the beds and/or rooms you booked are not available for other people to be booked.


Same Night Bookings received after reception hours:
If you have booked a room/bed for the same night but after our reception has closed, we will not know that you are coming and therefore you will not get into the hostel. If your booking is for more than one night, please contact us immediately to advise us whether you wish to keep your booking for the remaining nights as our cancellation policy will apply to the remainder of your booking.

We are on the corner of Stanmore Road and Gloucester St.

Step outside and you are just one-minute walk to local shops including a supermarket, takeaway restaurants, the best butcher in town, convenience store and post office. 1500 metres easy walk of 15 to 20 minute walk to the central city.

10 - 15 minutes walk to more shopping incl. some great Thai and Indian restaurants, large family style supermarket.
