The closest airports in the city of Coimbra are located, respectively, in Porto (120Km) and Lisbon (200km).
To reach Coimbra you have three possibilities:
From the International Airport of Lisbon (Portela):
By Train: Take a taxi to Gare LISBON EAST. The journey takes about 10 minutes and will cost about 5 euros. The fast trains to the city of Coimbra (every hour) until 21pm. The journey takes about two hours if coming from ALFA, or a little more if it comes from Intercity. The cost is 30 euros (Alfa) or EUR 20 (Intercity).
In Coimbra there are two train stations: Coimbra B on the main line, and Coimbra A, in the city center. You can buy your ticket over the internet.
By Bus: Take a taxi to the bus station in Sete Rios. The trip takes about 15 mins and will cost about ten euros. Buses to the city of Coimbra (every hour) until 21pm. Some may not be direct and stopping in other cities before arriving at Coimbra. The trip to Coimbra takes about two hours and a half hours and costs 13 euros. You can buy your ticket over the internet.
By Car: Take the Self Platform North (A1) towards Porto and go South on Coimbra. The distance is about 200 Km
From the Oporto International Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro):
By Train: Take a taxi or the subway, both available from the airport to Gare de Port-Campanhã. This trip will last about 30 minutes. There are several daily trains bound for Coimbra. The journey will take about an hour if coming from Alfa, and a little more if it comes from Intercity, and will cost 15.5 euros (Alfa) or 11 euros (Intercity). In Coimbra there are two train stations: Coimbra B on the main line, and Coimbra A, in the city center. You can buy your ticket over the internet.
