Welcome to the Friendly Gecko Guest House! We are a socially responsible guest house in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We want to offer convenient and safe accommodation for a reasonable price. As a social contribution we invest 100% of our profits into the help2kids childrens home. All rooms are fitted with mosquito nets and fans. There is also air-condition in the private roooms. Snacks and Drinks (Water/Sodas/Beer) are always available in the living room. There is also a TV, DVD player in our community area. For a low fee internet access can be bought at our manager in place (also USB internet sticks are available for your private laptop). We have a large garden and a nice terrace to meet in the evening. We constantly host up to 8 volunteers of the help2kids childrens home and we love to meet new people and to share experiences. We also offer a weekly BBQ. If you have questions, need information or support, there is always assistance by our managers on site. We want to offer you a safe and carefree environment for your exciting new experiences in Africa. We have a 6-bed female dorm and a 4-bed male dormitory. They are fully equipped with mosquito nets, fans and shelfs. Each dorm has its own bathroom. Our private rooms are also equipped with mosquito nets, safes, shelfs, fans and air-conditioning. Moreover you have your own bathroom. The state run electricity supply is unfortunately not very reliable (in average we have 12 hours electricity per day). Therefore electronic devices such as air-conditioning or TV may not be permenantly available. However we decided not to have a generator. First of all it is not ecological and it is noisy, moreover we believe that it isn't really necessary. We have always running water, our kitchen is gas operated, we have safe candle holders in each room and bathroom and our internet is working electricity independant. In addition it is just part of the real "African" way of live that there is not constantly electricity and very soon you experience that it isn't as important as you thought at home. |

Our Guest House is located outside of down-town Dar es Salaam at the Africana District. It is very close to the well known White Sands area where the boats for tourists are heading off to Mbudya Island. There are some reasons why we prefer to be outside of the center: We want to have space, a lot of 'green' around ourselves and no noise or smog. Moreover we are very close to our orphanage.

From the airport it takes appr. 30min by car to our guest house (depending on traffic). We advise all guests to take a taxi, bajaj (low cost transportation) or to get picked up by one of our employees directly at the airport.
Direction by car: Follow the Old Bagamoyo Road towards White Sands. At the first round-about at the 'White Sands' sign turn left. Then turn right the second rough road (there is a sign with 'Viva Villa' on it).
If you have any difficulties just call our manager (+255 686 93 87 24) and she can explain the direction to the taxi driver. We can also pick you up at the airport or bus terminal for the same fare as for a taxi (from the airport TZS 40,000 or USD 25).

Located Near
