THINGS TO DO IN DUBROVNIK:.
If you can fit it into your schedule, give yourself at least a couple days to explore and enjoy one of the Med's most magnificent walled cities. That way you'll get to see how the town really lives and breathes.
The best time to visit is in the spring or early fall when the weather is generally sunny and there are less tourists about. But during peak season (June - September), the town gets more lively and you''ll have a great time.
Our staff at Fresh* Sheets will be happy to give you some insider tips and help answer any of your questions when you arrive, but here are a few key activities, we'd recommend:
WALK THE WALLS
This is a must. You just have to time it right. Plan on doing the walk early in the morning or early evening so that you avoid the cruise ship traffic. Otherwise, you may find yourself sweating and doing something that feels more like waiting in a line at Disneyland.
HIT THE WATER
A few meters from Fresh* Sheets, there are two great cliffside bars where local youth also prove their mettle. You can go cliff-jumping into the clear blue Adriatic and then chill out on the rocks afterwards. If you have the time, you can also hop a small ferry from the Old Town Port to Lokrum island where the cliffs are a steeper and provide good photo opps to make your friends envious.
We arrange kayaking trips for all our guests. It's a great way to start the day and you'll get the chance to paddle around the Old Town and the nearby island of Lokrum where you'll find a secret cove and some of the clearest water you'll ever see. If you want to go deeper, local dive shops offer excursions for both inexperienced, amateur, and professional divers.
Although the Fresh* bar we used to run in another location in the Old Town is closed, you can still get Fresh* in Dubrovnik. During the season, you can refresh* every Monday + Tuesday + Friday night at our bucket parties at Cafe Galerie (Kuniceva 5 / 6th street on your left from the main Pile Gate).
Drink Specials include:
*Happy Hour Beer (8-9pm) - 2 for 1 bottles of domestic.
*Discount Sex (9-11pm) - 3 litre sex on the beach cocktail towers
*Cocktail Buckets (all night long) - Fresh*+ Thai + Sex buckets
WAR PHOTO LIMITED
There are few physical reminders of the the siege that occurred in the early 90s. Although it doesn't seem like something to do on holiday, you'll gain a much greater appreciation of the city and its occupants when you get the chance to see, even briefly, how much it has gone through and changed. War Photo Limited is a well-run gallery and a valuable resource. There is a space dedicated to images of what occurred in the region but the rotating exhibitions of world-renowned photojournalists cover many different conflicts. During the hot summer days, it also offers a welcome respite from the heat and a good place to reflect. Definitely worth a visit.
GET IN SHAPE
For those looking to get in shape, you'll notice that Dubrovnik has a lot of stairs. However, if you really are into fitness, we've spent the winter sacrificing a few beer calories to find the best jogging routes. If running isn't your thing, we organize hikes up the hill overlooking the Old Town. Aside from the stunning views and cold beer at top, you'll get the extra bonus of meeting Maxie the hostel mascot - a handsome english setter who we rescued without realizing what an exercise freak he is. We are also planning on setting up a yoga center with drop in classes.
.:COSTS IN DUBROVNIK:.
People are usually surprised by the costs in Dubrovnik. You may find it to be more pricey than you planned on. Accommodation costs inside the Old Town can be quite expensive and there are plenty of ways to spend your money. However, like most places, with a little insider knowledge, you can stick to your budget if you avoid the tourist menus and one-off restaurants, hit up drink specials, and prepare your own picnic lunches.
When you arrive, we'll give you a list of the places where we eat - good food, fair prices. We also have a basic kitchen at the hostel so you'll be able to visit the nearby supermarket and open-air fruit and veg market and prepare your own meals. Beer in bars average about 25 KUNA (@ 3.5 EUR) so you may want to take advantage of our Happy Hour before heading out for the night. Otherwise, you can purchase 2 litre bottles in the store.
Hope you get a chance to visit us! Looking forward to your stay!

.:DIRECTIONS TO FRESH* SHEETS, DUBROVNIK, CROATIA:.
Dubrovnik is a hilly town. There are stairs everywhere. The historical Old Town is completely pedestrian and not accessible by public vehicles. This is part of its charm but can also come as quite a shock. Be prepared.
To make your life easier, please print these step by step directions. Street names in the Old Town are not very useful and a lot of people aren't familiar with the names of smaller streets. Also, you may find it easier to travel with a backpack instead of dragging a suitcase over the cobbled streets, gravel courtyards, and up and down all those stairs.
If you arrive by automobile, the city recently completed a huge parking garage located @ 15 minute walk from the Old City gates. It is probably your best option and safer than parking on the street where the city police are renowned for ticketing and towing cars. When you drive into Dubrovnik, you can't miss it. There is a very very large sign. From the parking garage, take a bus or walk to the main gates. The instructions for finding the hostel from the main gate is listed below.
Passenger boats and buses arrive to the port of Gruz in Dubrovnik. The Old Town is a 10 to 20 minute drive away (depending on traffic). To get to the Old Town, you can either take a taxi (@50 KUNA) or ride the public bus (15 KUNA). If you buy your bus ticket from the newspaper kiosk, it is cheaper. Hop on either the 1A or 1B 'Pile Gate' bus. Once you get to the Old Town, enter through Pile Gate (main entrance).
Upon arrival, your cheapest option is to take an airport shuttle (@35 KUNA) which picks up passengers outside the arrival hall and drops you off just outside Pile Gate (main entrance to the Old Town). Airport taxis are available as well (@250 KUNA). The taxi line is next to the shuttle bus. If no taxis are available, you can request one from the information desk.
Once you have entered 'Pile Gate' (the main entrance to Dubrovnik's Old Town), it's about a ten minute walk to Fresh* Sheets.
(1) Head straight down the main street 'Placa' (Stradun) towards the Clock Tower. One block before the Clock Tower, turn right (just after a large cafe called 'Cele' with alfresco seating). If you pass the statue of Orlando in front of St. Blaise's Church, you've gone too far. (@ 2-5 minutes)
(2) Walk straight. If you arrive in the morning, you will pass old ladies selling fruits and vegetables in Gundulic Square. The prices are more expensive than if you visit the Konzum supermarket just next to them but if you can make them smile, maybe worth it. During the evening, Gundulic Square is filled with dining tables. Continue past the square and up the rather daunting steps leading to the Jesuit Monastery. (@ 3 minutes)
(3) Once you have climbed the 'Spanish Steps', take a breather. To your right is the Jesuit Monastery. Completed in 1725, it houses the oldest bell in Dubrovnik (cast in 1355 by Vivencije and his son Viator). Next to the Church is the baroque building of the former Collegium of Dubrovnik. Caught your breath? :) Now walk left through the gravel courtyard until you see a wooden sign that reads 'Cold Drinks With Most Beautiful View'. (@ 30s)
(4) Turn right at the sign towards the cliff-side cafe bar 'Cold Drinks' (Buza). This will take you along a path and gradual steps that follow the outer sea wall. Once you see the next 'Cold Drinks' sign, you are almost at Fresh* Sheets. You may be tempted to knock back a cold beer but save your money, a 'welcome' drink is waiting for you! (@ 3 minutes)
(5) Continue walking straight past two small alleys. Fresh* Sheets is the tall corner building located on your right-hand side. It is a light blue four-story building with a yellow lamp hanging from the corner (directly across from a garden area). (@ 1 minute)
(6) Welcome to Fresh* Sheets!!!
Looking forward to your stay!
