About Hanoi Backpackers Hostel

One of the first hostels in Hanoi, the Hanoi Backpackers' Hostel offers fun and friendly accommodation to backpackers and independent travelers. We are a Hostelling International property and have a range of affordable, air-conditioned dormitories and private rooms. Linen, breakfast and internet access are included in the rates.

We are situated in a quiet lane just 100 meters from the front steps St Joseph's Cathedral. Perfectly located to explore the Old Quarter, we are a 3-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and a 20-minute walk from Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.

We host regular BBQ parties from our roof top terrace, and happy hour in the bar starts at 17:00 every day. Other facilities include a guest kitchen, a common room and bicycle hire, and we offer a transit-stop service where visitors just passing through Hanoi can store their luggage and take a shower. Airport pick-ups are available.

Hanoi Backpackers is pretty average in my book. At $8.50 a night for a dorm bed, it's expensive when you can get a private room in a hotel for $15-20. The mattresses were very hard and the bathrooms were only somewhat clean. It attracts a lot of gap-year aged backpackers, and if that's your scene, then you'll probably like the place. Overall, the hostel is ok, but not excetional. Wilson, from USA ~ 30th Aug 2009

This hostel, in my opinion, is highly overated. It is on an alleyway that is home to a dozen or more hotels, all very similar in price, which more than twice the ammenities. The hostel itself is nothing special. I would recommend staying at a HOTEL on the same alleyway, and just stopping in at the hostel for its happy hour. For 8-10 USD you can get your own private room, towels, satellite tv, bathtub, etc. Whereas at the hostel you are in a 10-12 person dorm room with ensuite bathroom. Ben, from Canada ~ 7th Jul 2009
