Elundini Backpackers is an eco-friendly backpackers.

All our rooms are in rondavels wich are build in the traditional way. We have 1 dormitory room and 2 double/ triple/4sleeper bedrooms. Toilets and showers are in a communal sanitary block. We don't have flushing toilets but use compost toilets instead. Rain water is harvested from the roofs and stored in tanks. All waste water is recycled. Warm water coms from our solar geyser. For electricity we completely depend on solar energy.

We have self catering facitlities but don't hesitate to join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our kitchen staff will introduce you in Xhosa cuisine with a twist.

During the day enjoy our activities organised by the local people whilst showcasing their 100% self owned business. Jump on that horse, hike to hogsback, learn how to make Xhosa bread and so much more.

At the end of the day grab yourself a 75 ml beer from the bar, sit around the fire and gaze at the galaxy of stars. Local is lekker!!!

Travelling from East London:

Get onto the highway to King Williams Town. You will enter King Williams Town into Alexander road. Then turn left at the 5th traffic light into Cathcart Street (should also be a sign board directing you to the Peddie/Alice direction) - this is situated right across from the Huberta town museum on your right, and Total/Steers on your left. Just outside King Williams Town, cross two bridges in close proximity and turn right to the road that is marked Alice/University of Fort Hare. Continue for about 55km. Just before you reach Alice, there is a turn-off to the right to Hogsback/Cathcart. Follow this road until you see a sign 'Seymour' and turn to the left. Follow this dirt road for 8 km. and turn left at the first house of the first village.

Travelling from Port Elizabeth:

Take the road to Grahamstown, travel straight to Fort Beaufort, then through Alice on the way to King Williams Town, but take the turn-off to the left about 4 km outside Alice to Hogsback. Follow this road until you see a sign 'Seymour' and turn to the left. Follow this dirt road for 8 km. and turn left at the first house of the first village.

Travelling from Bloemfontein:

Easiest through Aliwal-North, to Queenstown. From Queenstow you drive to Seymour. When you arrive in Seymour turn left into town. At the T-junction you go right and cross the bridge over the dam. Follow the dirtroad for 13 km until you see the 'backpackers' sign on your right.

City to City buses (part of Translux) pass Alice. Check on their website for more details about time tables and fares.
