Waipio Hostel
|
Waipi'o Hostel is a small hostel located in the sleepy village of Kukuihaele at the rim of the majestic Waipi'o Valley. The hostel is a charming old plantation house once inhabited by sugar plantation workers. Three single or double rooms complete with bedding and towels share a fully equipped common space including a rustic bathroom with beautiful deck flooring, living room with cable TV, Wi-Fi and Internet access, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishes, an outside patio with tables and benches, sinks, a propane grill and a beautiful ocean view. This is not your typical hostel - there are no bunk beds but instead really comfortable beds and bedding. It's a great way to meet other travelers and hikers as well as local people. The yard has many fruits trees - tangerine, oranges, grapefruit, macadamia nuts and bananas. It is also planted with many beautiful tropical flowers.

When you get to Honoka`a, take a left at the first sign (which also says WAIPIO) and go down a steep hill into town. At the 4-way stop, turn left and go almost 9 miles to Kukuihaele. At the 8 mile marker there will be a sign on the right that says Kukuihaele. Turn right and take the little road through Kukuihaele, past Neptune's Garden/Last Chance Store/Post Office on the right, the Kukuihaele Social Hall on the left. Go past the County Park (open field) on the right. We are the 5th house after the park. It is an old yellow plantation house with a brand new green roof, a mock orange hedge fronting the property, a yellow picket gate tucked in the middle of the hedge with the name Florencio Alegre (my grandfather). You can park on the grass strip between the road and the hedge. The address is 48-5380 Kukuihaele Road. Please let us know approximately what time you plan to arrive.
