Experience a warm and friendly stay at the shore of lake Baikal - the deepest, the cleanest, the oldest lake in the world. "Alpbase Baikal" hostel caters for families, tourists and backpackers with accommodation in multi-bedded, family and dormitory rooms. Some rooms have fireplace inside. Sauna right at the shore, laundry, canoes, kayaks, skates, skiis, rock and ice climbing equipment.The hostel is located on the Circum Baikal old railway which is now a monument of architecture itself. AlpBase Baikal, old Angasolka settlement, Irkutsk Region, Russia.By local train from Irkutsk. Take a ticket to Sludyanka stop, from Sludyanka there is a connecting train that will take you to old Angasolka stop - right to the place - the house nearest to the Lake. The connecting train goes every second day, thus you'll need to check the schedule first.The best way to get to the place is to contact a local language school - students, they would be happy to show you around and help you to get to the place, they can meet you on your arrival to Irkutsk (arranging that shall cost you 500 rub). Shall you want to use that - please contact me vie email and I shall pass your email to the students who want to interract. cozy@es-irk.comBy local train from Irkutsk. 'Temnaya Pad' stop, a 40 min walk towards Lake Baikal through forest. The house nearest to the Lake.There are 2 trains a day 8.35 in the morning departure and arrives Temnaya pad at 11 48. Another one at 18 55( departure) - 21 33 (arrival). You want to get off shortly after you see the lake out of your windows, there will also be a huge 180* bend of the railroad. Just before the tonnel. When you get off you want to come colose to the tonnel and on your left you'll see a forest trail - it will lead you to the place.If that happens that you get off the next stop, don't worry - you still can have a nice walk along the bank of the lake along the old railroad it shall also lead you to the place.You can get to this place by car from February till May.Please contact us to arrange a car for you. The Taxi Drivers will rip you off. :-(Please contact us to make everything easier for you.

A shop is in 50 meters from the house. A little church in 30 meters. 'Rerich' museum 100 meters. Tunnels (monument of Architecture) - 500 meters. River 200 meters.Please not that in July and August of 2012 all the staff is going to an island on lake Baikal wich is located at the inflow of Selenga river (the warmest place of the lake). If you want to stay with us on the island please contact us. Sorry for the inconvenience if you wanted to stay at our usual spot.
