We are a not-for-profit Ecolodge set in the mountains of northern Nicaragua, enjoying stunning panoramic views over the forested valleys and Apanas Lake. La Bastilla offers beautiful eco-friendly accommodation in cosy wooden cabins, set within the Datanli El Diablo nature reserve.

If coming in your own vehicle a 4x4 is recommended as roads are steep and rocky

We are a social enterprise; your stay contributes to supporting La Bastilla Agricultural High School which provides a comprehensive technical education for young people from impoverished backgrounds: 100% of our profits go towards the operating costs of the school

From Managua you can take a bus from the Mercado Mayoreo bus station, or hire a 4x4 vehicle to travel to Jinotega.
If you travel by bus you will arrive in Jinotega in approximately 3 hours. We can also arrange a taxi for you from Managua (approx $100).

From Jinotega you can take a bus from the market to Jiguina, or come in a 4x4 vehicle.

La Bastilla is some 20km from Jinotega city centre. Following the road towards Pantasma, you will pass El Puente de Jiguina, we are the 2nd entrance on the right, 4.5km up the road.

We can also arrange taxis from Jinotega to bring you up to the Ecolodge (approx $20).

Located Near

We enjoy a beautiful mountain setting in the Datanli-El Diablo nature reserve, on a coffee farm with the highest level of Rainforest Alliance certification and stunning views towards the Apanas lake.

The area is a tranquil primary cloud forest which offers fantastic hiking & bird watching opportunities.

The remoteness of the location enables you to experience nature first-hand, as you awake to vibrant birdsong.
From the Ecolodge you can also enjoy boat rides, coffee tours, horse rides & more.
