Rongo has a radio station where you can be the DJ, a fire bath, an incredible gallery of local and international art, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, a permaculture farm, famous pot-luck dinners, friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the local region, transport service, a naughty dog called 'Moo' and every 4th night is FREE!!

Karamea is at there top of the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a mild climate that is warm and sunny all year round. Head to Westport and turn north, it's about 1 ½ hours drive along the beautiful West Coast, through verdant forest and spectacular mountains…getting there is really fun.
There is one bus daily (except Sunday) from Westport. The Karamea Express leaves from Westport Information Centre in Palmerston Street, where you can also purchase a ticket. It leaves Westport at 11:30 a.m. and arrives in Karamea at 1:30 p.m. The driver will drop you off at Rongo Backpackers if you ask him to.
