When I read the previous review I was a little worried about the location but it is easy to get to. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was a perfect spot for me to lay my head at night while I explored Kyoto during the day. There isn't a lot of community activity in the shared space if you're looking for that but it is a great affordable place to stay during your visit to Kyoto.

As said before, taxi drivers don't know where it is. If you feel confident, take the #73 bus toward Gojou （五条） and get off after I think 3 stops, near a place called Fresco. It's pretty close to there. Very close to bus stops, but be warned the buses are often very late. Also be warned they only have hot water from 8-10 a.m. or 9-11 p.m. We stayed in a twin private (yet still cheap - 2750/night/person) and it was big, clean, and lockable

I love the stay in the guesthouse. It is easy to find. No need to take a cab or taxi. Owner, his wife and staff are warm and friendly. Internet and map provided are useful. My wife & baby (11 months) sleep well in the comfortable room. Kitchen is good with every electric apparatus and utensils I needed. Casa del sol is a good for the traveler on a budget. But it was difficult to find and the taxi driver did not know where it was. If you are on foot, its over a 10 min walk from the train station. Its more like 15 minutes. A better map and directions is needed on the website. The photos on the website are not much help. The management does not speak English very well but will l let you use the internet for free and they have a giveaway map that is useful. I was surprised that I had to rent towe
