If a secluded rural retreat is what you’re seeking, look no further than YHA Ennerdale, situated close to the Lake District’s most westerly lake. The hostel site includes a hostel, camping and a camping barn, providing space for 24 guests.

With no TV, Wi-Fi or phone signal, the hostel offers a perfect location to switch off from your daily distractions and to enjoy the surrounding wilderness whilst socialising with like-minded guests. Plus, if it’s an eco-friendly trip you’re looking for then Ennerdale ticks that box too. The hostel has an off-grid power supply and even generates its own drinking water using water collected from the surrounding mountains! So relax, comfortable that you are helping the environment.

The site is surrounded by peaks, ridges and fells, offering an ideal location for walking and mountain biking. With tough mountainous walks and gentle forest trails, there’s something for everybody to enjoy. The hostel is a short drive from Whitehaven and a slightly longer drive takes you to the ancient market town of Cockermouth.
