The hostel that recommended by 'Rough Guides ' Facing the crystal-like blue water, International Youth Hostel Lugu Lake is situated in Lige Village at the foot of the mountain. The mountain is called Mount Gemu Goddess by Mosuo people, and the lake is just the well-known Lugu Lake with stunning beauty and tranquility. The lake is located on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan Province and surrounded by tens of little villages, and Lige is just one of them with less than 30 houses. Although Luoshui, another village on the lakeside, is on the top of recommendation list for groups by most travelers' guidebook, Lige is more popular among backpackers who prefer to enjoy the peaceful beauty of nature and less-commercialized local culture in this Mosuo settlement. Situated in the central part of Lige Village, International Youth Hostel Lugu Lake has a typically traditional Mosuo courtyard houses with a cozy common room facing the fields and the water as well as luxurious lake-view suites. In a far-reaching underdeveloped village like this, you can enjoy free internet, Chinese green tea and drinking water as well as hot shower for 24 hours a day. In addition, the hostel is equipped with clean toilet and self-service washing machine which can meet the needs for guests from all over the world. And nowhere else here in Lige can you find a place like this. Just feel like home. Not accessible by rail, water and flights, Lugu Lake straddles the mountainous border area of Yunnan and Sichuan. You could only reach this peaceful Lake by cars via 2 routes: (1) via Ninliang, Yunnan ;(2) via Yanyuan, Sichuan.
How to reach International Youth Hostel Lugu Lake:
1. From Lijiang(210 km, 5-7 hours by car)
Route: Lijiang- Ninliang- Luoshui Village- Lige Village
We suggest you take the shuttle bus at Lijiang Car Park to Lige Village directly. It is scheduled at 08:30 every day and it takes about 7 hours (including lunch time on the road)。If you stay at International Youth Hostel Lijiang, They could book the bus ticket for you at the reception desk but it is only to Luoshui village. (There are 2 scheduled buses at Lijiang Terminal to Lugu Lake every day but the final stop is at Luoshui Village as well. To Lige Village, you have to rent a car or walk by yourself and it is about 10km far from Luoshui Village. Yet we do not recommend you to this route.
2. From Chengdu(around 800 km, 2 days by train and car.)
Route: Chengdu- Xichang-Yanyuan-Zuosuo- Dazui Village-Lige Village
Reach Xichang first (Chengdu-Xichang is about 500km and you could go there by train, car or flight) There is 1 scheduled bus from Xichang to Lijiang every morning at Xichang Terminal and it stops by Lige Village at around 15:00. If you do not catch this bus, you could also take another scheduled bus from Xichang to Zuosuo (aka Lugu Lake Town). Then you could take a bus or rent a car to Lige Village at there. ( Zuosuo- Lige Village is about 25km away which is also a famous hiking route.)
