Pocitos Hostel has an strategic location in the neighbourhood that gives it his name: the neighbourhood of the Pocitos, which has an incredible quietness, wide avenues and a spectacular coast over the Río de la Plat

We are Martin & Nacho, two friends who met in Ireland in 2006. After travelling and working around we came back to Uruguay convinced that the best way to continue with our trip, getting to meet people from all around the world and new life stories would be by having our own hostel. Thats why we opened Pocitos Hostel in December 2008.

Our staff has been carefully selected; they are all very good friends of ours and even though they are young people (between 18 and 23) they surely are the best staff youll ever meet and for sure will never forget.

The hostel is in the heart of Pocitos, the best neighborhood in which to stay in Montevideo. The house is unique and was built in the 1930s by Bello & Reborati . It has big, light dorms and common areas.

Pocitos Hostel is an all year-round hostel. Here, when days are cold you can enjoy listening to music, reading a good book from our library, having a drink, playing board games or just sharing a moment next to our fireplace!
Then, when the days are nice you can enjoy our backyard! Get a nice tan before going to Pocitos beach (2 min. walk) or just lie down on a hammock or an outdoor chair and forget about the world. Last but not least you cannot miss our asado nights with all the hostel staff and guests.

Our beautiful house, the opportunities at the hostel, the neighborhood and our great service will make of your visit to Montevideo, a special stay. We are proud and happy to say (as some backpackers said) that Pocitos Hostel is a home away from home.

See you soon

The amazing Riviera which Montevideans love and use for exercise, walking and to spend time drinking mate (beverage made from steeping the leaves of the mate bush in hot water) particularly at sunset. Visitors can sunbath at Pocitos beach and swim in its fresh waters. Pocitos Hostel is a one minute walk from the beach.

Also Pocitos has the citys best and most popular pubs, restaurants, grill houses and cafes in which you will have the opportunity of tasting traditional Uruguayan roast beef, exquisite foreign meals or just go out for a few beers, enjoy musical shows and dance till dawn. Given Pocitos Hostels strategic location, right in the center of the neighborhood, everything is no more than a 10 minutes walk away.

There are two comfortable and attractive shopping malls: Montevideo Shopping Center, founded in 1985 and the first one of its kind in the Rio de la Plata area, which was built by acclaimed Architect Eladio Dieste, and it's located less than 10 minutes away from our Hostel. And also Punta Carretas Shopping, built over the old Punta Carretas jail, is only 5 minutes away from our Hostel. These shopping malls offer exciting shopping experiences, from fashionable clothing to crafts, food courts and movie theaters where you can watch the latest films.

The popular street fairs of the neighborhood also pose a great opportunity to go shopping; you can find everything from fruits, vegetables and fish to antiques and collector's items. The famous Villa Biarritz fair, located in the beautiful Zorrilla park, with a view to the Rio de la Plata, is a classic spot to visit for the tourist, and it can be enjoyed Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Pocitos also offers interesting cultural strolls, such as the Museo de Artes Visuales, right at the famous Rodo park, a 5 minute walk from the Hostel, and it's considered to be the most complete museum of Montevideo, with over 6,000 pieces, most of them by national artists like Juan Manuel Blanes, Carlos Federico Sez, Pedro Figari, Rafael Barradas and Joaqun Torres Garca. Also a 5 minute walk away, you'll find the School of Architecture and the School of Engineering, the colossal and spectacular Golf Club (open to the public on Mondays), Gomensoro Park on the Rambla, and more.
