Welcome to our small, quiet, quality two-family townhome in a safe, landmark New York City neighbourhood.
We’re conveniently close (by subway) to Times Square, the Lincoln Centre, Central Park, Grand Central, the Rockefeller Centre, Broadway, Columbus Circle, Union Square, Herald Square and most other New York City tourist attractions. The hostel can host a maximum of 20 guests at a time and each of our four rooms can sleep up to four persons. The mattresses are not the thin types you find in most hostels but thick quality mattresses where you can rest well. One recent guest who stayed here after three months of staying in various hostels around NYC told us, ‘this is the first time since I've been here [in NYC] that I had a good night's sleep’. What's included in the price is free cable television with premium movie channels, free Wi-Fi (even in the bedrooms), free computer for use if you want to leave your laptop at home, free printer/webcam, some exercise equipment, board games for those days you want to relax inside, a refrigerator, a cooking area with utensils and cookware, free linens and towels. No smoking is allowed inside but you can just step outside into the street. This neighborhood is safe and quiet. The 46/Bliss Street station of the number 7 train is just 1 1/2 short blocks away. The train runs 24/7 at frequent intervals (2-10 minutes) between Main Street, Flushing and Times Square. From 46/Bliss it's about 12-15 minutes to Times Square and about 20 to Flushing. All accommodations are clean and well maintained, with quick and access to Manhattan and other tourist destinations in New York City. Sunnyside is the New York City neighborhood of preference for my guests. The hostel is cosy but usually has two common areas available to congregate in. There is also a front porch that is exposed to the street, plus two kitchen areas and a backyard. You'll always get a peaceful night's sleep as the rooms are quiet and, unlike what you would find in most other hostels, the mattresses are thick and comfortable. The hustle of New York can tire anyone out in a day so we make it our personal goal to assure that your stay here helps to rejuvenate you for the next day. All common areas are kept clean and the bedroom areas are thoroughly cleaned after each stay. The apartment building itself is immaculately maintained. There are televisions and cable and WI-Fi. Feel free to use the games or play Wii or PS3 in the living room. There could be a karaoke setup as well if you want to relax and sing a couple of songs. This is not a large-scale operation. Our goal is to provide accommodations that would otherwise be hard to come by and all at a extremely affordable price. From JFK:
The cheapest way is also convenient if you have luggage, although it will take a little longer. Take the Q10 bus to the last stop in Kew Gardens. Cross Queens Blvd and take the Q60 bus to 48th Street.
If you want to take the train, the use the airtrain to Jamaica Station, transfer to the Manhattan-bound E-train to Roosevelt Avenue/Jackson Heights, and transfer to the Times Square bound number 7 train to 46/Bliss Street.
From La Guardia:
Take the Q33 or any bus that will take you to Roosevelt Avenue and transfer to either the Manhattan-bound 7 train exiting at 46/Bliss Street or the Manhattan bound Q32 bus exiting at 48th Street and Queens Blvd. Keep in mind a cab from LGA is only $15 and about 15 minutes.
From EWR:
Take the shuttle train to New York Penn Station. If you have a lot of luggage and don't mind a longer ride where you don't have to transfer or climb stairs, take the Q32 bus directly to 47th Street and Queens Blvd. Otherwise, take the 1, 2, or 3 train uptown 1 stop to Times Square and transfer to the local number 7 train to 46/Bliss Street. Keep near the front of the train and exit the 47th Street side on the North side of Queens Blvd.
Once at 47th or 48th Streets walk a block North to 43rd Avenue and we are in the middle of the block between 47th and 48th Streets. The house number is 47-09 on 43rd Avenue.
More about taking the bus from Penn Station in Manhattan:
The bus is definitely more user friendly and the bus driver and even passengers are eager to help. The bus driver announces stops although he will probably say 46th rather 47th Street. There will be a big 'Welcome to Sunnyside' sign on your right side on 46th Street. It's kind of easy to get a sense of where you are as the streets run sequential along the stretch of Queens Blvd. that the bus will be on. You will cross over the bridge at 59th Street in Manhattan and once you pass Queens Plaza and another small bridge you will see 33rd Street and the streets just go up from there. Another nice thing about the bus is that you won't have to cart your luggage around up and down stairs and through underground walkways. To get the Q32 from Penn exit at the center corridor looking for the 7th Avenue signs. As you emerge from the escalator you will see the bus stop and maybe a bus sitting there
across 7th Avenue and on 32nd Street. 32nd Street is a one way street that goes in the direction you will be facing as you come off the escalator. At any time, if you have any trouble, don't hesitate to call.
To recognize my place look for the building that looks like the picture. It is the only building on the block with an open front porch that is easy to see.
Located Near
Thiis Sunnyside location is on 43rd Ave between 47th and 48th Streets. The house number is 47-09 and picture here on the site. This is a landmark community distinct in that the types of houses and the landscaped courtyards. It's an extremely diverse community with large populations originally from all parts of Europe, Asia, and South and Central America. Bustling Queens Blvd is one block to the South. Numerous restaurants, shops, and services conveniently located steps away.
