The Vanderbilt YMCA was a really nice surprise!, I had such a great time there, I highly recommend it for your next visit to New York City.

Think of this more as a cheap, small hotel than a hostel. I felt very safe and everything was clean. The staff was relatively nice. The location was cetral to what I wanted to do but not really close to anything of interest to me, the met, East village, SOHO, Bleeker St. The Ferries in S. Manhattan, etc. If you know the subway system there you will be fine because you are pretty closet to Grand Central. I recommend it as a place to stay but just don't go expecting the hostel atmosphere.

tiny room but clean, safe, fairly convenient - definitely would stay there again.
