Housed in an old Victorian schoolhouse, the youth hostel is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts, families and wildlife watchers looking for budget accommodation. Good basic facilities include a self-catering kitchen, family sized bedrooms, a laundry, drying room, secure bike storage and ample on-site parking.
There are opportunities for fishing, pony trekking, wildlife watching and hill walking within the Galloway Forest Park and along the coast. The Forest Park also is the UK's first Dark Sky Park offering spectacular stellar viewing on a clear night. Mountain bikers can take the challenges at 7Stanes forests at Glentrool & Kirroughtree, The Southern Upland Way is only 8 miles away and the Sustrans Cycle Route 7 passes the youth hostel on the way to Highlands.

Get bus to Newton Stewart, then town bus to Minnigaff which drops outside the youth hostel. Minnigaff is walkable from Newton Stewart (0.5 mile)
Nearest train station is Stranraer (25 miles), then take bus.
From A75 follow signs for Newton Stewart. Look for Minnigaff/Newton Stewart Youth Hostel signs by the bridge. Turn into the road by the 'Cree Inn' and the youth hostel is 650 yards on the left.
Good local opportunities for walking, cycling, pony trekking, bird and nature watching and sightseeing.
Galloway Forest Park is nearby and the Southern Upland Way is 8 miles away.
Prime Mountain Biking is available at the 7stanes Mountain Biking Centres at Kirroughtree & Glentroll.
