BARRACO #55 is a small and cosy hostel and cultural centre in complexo do Alemão. Together with our local partners we aim to give you a true Brazilian experience by getting to know and participate in the local reality of many Brazilians.
In the hostel, there is a fully equiped kitchen and "production room" where you can work on a project, or join us for a workshop. No experience is needed to become part of the team. We also invite you to take a course of cooking or manicuring, learn Portuguese or spray graffiti. Feel free to provide us with suggestions also of what you would like to learn yourself.
We offer free breakfast, WIFI, towels and linen and often have events and workshops planned. There's only 16 beds available which will remain an informal and cosy ambience.

Note that Barraco #55 is located about 40 minutes from the city center and the beach. The area has only been 'pacified' since short and the situation between police and locals is sometimes still a bit tense. To avoid any problems, we therefore ask our visitors to act respectfully and open mindlessly to the people of the community.
The center has just been through a major renovation in order to provide you a cosy place to feel at home.
