Hostelling International's San Francisco City Center Hostel offers a taste of affordable luxury for backpackers. Formerly the Atherton Hotel, the building still exhibits touches of 1920s charm, such as marble floors, mahogany-railed balconies and Ivy's Place, a parlor-style café from the prohibition era.

The accommodation comprises 75 modern private rooms and dormitories with a maximum of 5 beds per room and all equipped with en-suite bathrooms. Linen and towels are provided and a complimentary continental breakfast is available every morning at our café. Other facilities at the hostel include free wireless internet access, a kitchen and a lounge.

We are located close to City Hall and the Civic Center Arts District in a neighbourhood well known for its multicultural, affordable restaurants. We are also within walking distance of The Warfield and the Great American Music Hall, which host big-name acts, indie heroes and local bands.

We organise regular activities such as pub crawls, walking tours and day trips to Napa Wine Country and Yosemite Valley.
